Ten things necessary to grow a Caribbean economy
Reduce tariffs on imports
This is a tough one. Because so many governments depend on the income/taxes from
goods coming into the country they don’t like the sound of this proposal.
However when certain industries grind to a standstill they have to consider
moratoriums and ways to get the industry working and hiring people again.
A case in point is the construction industry. When the cost of importing building materials gets too high, then everyone suffers.
The builder, plumber, electrician, plasterer, labourers, taxi driver, shop – all suffer.
This stagnates an already weak economy.
